Monday, September 10th, 2007Very big 400 ton off road mining trucks with 40″ rims use very large and complex tyres. The recommended price in 2005 for one of these was $24,000. The current recommended price (2007) is $80,000 each. If you really want one and you know someone who is willing to sell - then the price you will pay is $200,000 each. The trucks require six @$200k and they have a life of 3500 to 4000 hours on good haul roads and no accidental damage or cuts. The trucks do not have spacesaver spares either.
They are not listed in the consumer price index basket of goods, so if you have any at home, check your sums insured.
